“I strive to focus on what it is to be human, drawing on the connections we have with each other or in the space we inhabit. I am concerned with exploring a moment in time, as I collect memories, feelings and observations that act as a catalyst for the image I am going to make. My work ranges from portraiture, landscape to the abstract.

I have explored a plethora of printmaking techniques, most recently being drawn to hard and soft ground etching. The layering of textures or lines on the metal plate constantly mesmerizes me when I am etching the plate, as I am never really sure how it is going to turn out. I love the alchemy and the chance you take having labored over its creation when the mordant bites into the metal. I highly recommend it!

I have shown my work throughout Cornwall, Devon and Bristol in exhibitions such as Penzance Open Studios, Daisy Laing Gallery, Heseltine Gallery, St Ives Society of Artists, Krowji Open Studios, Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre and The Island Bristol.”

“My Journey with Art and print making has been a journey of discovery, about the media I work with and about myself. I look forward to sharing my experience with all of my students”

I am passionate about the arts and enjoy enabling people to develop their own creativity. I have a background in Theatre Design and Fine Art, which I have used in my teaching for the last 25 years. When I first started teaching, I free-lanced working in Theatre in Education and running drama workshops in schools, youth centres, as well as working within mental health. In 2010 I gained a Fine Art Degree at Plymouth University, where  I became fascinated with printmaking.

On moving back to Cornwall in 2014 I started teaching on numerous full time art programs at Penwith College, where I started using the print facilities at Penzance School of Art under the guidance of Mary Crockett. I ended up teaching printmaking there when Mary asked me to take over the printmaking courses and I jumped at the opportunity.   It was just by chance during the winter of 2024 that I got chatting to Natasha Theakston and we realized we wanted to do the same thing, so we set up Kemeneth Printmaking Studio in September 2026. Our studio is situated in the centre of Penzance, being a short walk from the sea and the train station.

Since then I have never looked back. I run Etching Workshops including Hard and Soft Ground Etching, Drypoint and Etching with Tetra Pac. I also teach Monoprinting and Linocut. What I love about working with printmakers, whether experienced or a beginner, is that you are always learning from each other. There are multiple ways to ink up a plate and there are always the happy accidents. To me printmaking is about cultivating a community, a visual language and above all enjoying the process!
